Health Insurance

For students who are enrolled in the Cornell Student Health Plan (SHP), the Beginning Right Maternity Program provides support for SHP members who are pregnant.

The baby’s health insurance should be decided well in advance of your planned due date. Cornell’s Office of Student Health Benefits can help you explore options so you can select the best coverage to fit your family’s needs.  You can reach them at (607) 255-6363 or studentbenefits@cornell.edu. Whether you are enrolled in the Student Health Plan (SHP) or another health insurance plan, staff members will be happy to provide information and answer questions.

Students who are enrolled in SHP may enroll their children. See SHP for dependents. If you are enrolled in another health insurance plan and have questions about how it works, contact your plan administrator, who will have the necessary expertise to answer questions about what is covered, how to enroll dependents, etc.

The New York State of Health (the official NY health plan marketplace) provides a range of options for families and children. Some policies have very affordable premiums; and there are low-cost policies available for young children, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. To speak with a helpful Health Access Navigator about how the marketplace works and options that might be available to you, contact the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County at (607) 273-8686.
